Association football specialties (position)
In association football, there are four traditional types of specialties (position): goalkeepers (goalies), defenders (full-backs), midfielders (half-backs),and forwards
(attackers). Special purpose positions include such performers as sweepers, stoppers,
second forwards (under-attackers),wingers,insiders etc.
. Goalkeepers: good reflexes,
Communication with defence, one-on-one ability, command of the penalty area and aerial intelligence.
. Centre backs : good heading and tackling ability, height, bravery in attempting challenges, and concentration.

Positioning – Being in the right place defensively or offensively.
Game intelligence – Reading the game, anticipating plays.
Movement off the ball – Creating space or options for teammates.
Pressing and marking – Applying pressure or staying close to opponents.
3. Physical Specialties
Speed and acceleration – Fast sprinting and quick direction changes.
Strength – Holding off challenges, shielding the ball.
Stamina – Endurance to perform consistently throughout the match.
Agility and balance – Quick turns, maintaining control under pressure.
4. Psychological Skills
Composure – Staying calm under pressure.
Leadership – Organizing and inspiring teammates.
Confidence – Taking initiative in key moments.
Resilience – Bouncing back from setbacks.
5. Specialty Roles (Examples)
Playmaker – Creates chances (e.g., Kevin De Bruyne).
Winger – Fast, skilled in 1v1 situations (e.g., Vinícius Jr.).
Box-to-box midfielder – Contributes both in attack and defense.
Poacher/Striker – Finishes chances inside the box (e.g., Erling Haaland).
Sweeper Keeper – Goalkeeper who also acts as a defender (e.g., Ederson).
